For your convenience and to offer more flexibility in customizing our body care products to meet your individual needs, Jordan Essentials offers pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils and essential oil blends. Essential oils not only offer delightful aromas, but may offer some therapeutic benefits as well.   Many of our products are already perfectly formulated using essential oils and fragrances, taking all the guesswork out of the equation for you. Some popular products with essential oils added include Jordan Essentials Helio Superfood Lotion, Peppermint Magnesium Lotion, and our Resistance line of products. Occasionally, you may want to combine our lotions, scrubs, hair care, and skin care with the amazing benefits of Jordan Essentials’ essential oils.  However, when using our pure essential oils, it is important to keep a few things in mind to optimize the safety and effectiveness of the oils.

Essential oils are highly concentrated, so it is recommended to always dilute them before applying topically to the skin.  A common mistake seen in new essential oil users is to think that “more is better”. With essential oils, however, this is not the case. Here are the generally recognized dilution guidelines as outlined by NAHA (National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy):

An example of 2 teaspoons of a carrier would be about a grape-sized portion, mixed with the essential oil either in a small bowl or in the palm of your hand.  Jordan Essentials products, particularly those that are naturally unscented, make excellent carrier lotions for your essential oil applications. Recommended carriers include Jordan Essentials Skin Relief, Jordan Essentials Unscented Magnesium, and Unscented Shea Body Butter.  Essential oils can also be added to JE Salt Scrub, Unscented Dead Sea Salt Soak, Jordan Essentials Toner, Hydrating Body Spritzer, and JE Shampoos.

When adding essential oils to JE products, it is recommended to test the skin for sensitivity.   After diluting, test a small area of skin, such as on the inner arm or wrist. See our article on how to test your skin for sensitivity here.   Sensitivity symptoms may include itching, burning (rare), skin irritation, rash, headache, or nausea.  Should these symptoms occur, discontinue use. For more information on how to safely use essential oils, check out our article here.

Products that contain essential oils, such as the Helio Magnesium Stick, Magnesium Stick Plus, Limited Edition Magnesium Sticks such as Allergy or Resistance, Peppermint Magnesium Lotion, Resistance Foaming Hand Soap, Resistance Deodorant, etc. are diluted in such a way that you can confidently use these products with younger kiddos.

Age recommendations on certain products are based on current dilution ratios and the average rate of absorption.  You can find the age recommendation in the catalog next to that product. Jordan Essentials Droppers are full strength and need to be diluted according to recommended guidelines in this article.  Jordan Essentials Sprays and Roll-Ons are diluted to be safe for ages 2+. The exception to this is the Resistance Spray and the Resistance Roll-On which contains a powerful essential oil blend that is recommended for 10+.

Essential oils offer many benefits and are a wonderful addition to your Healthy Skin and Healthy Life goals.  Using them well, and using them correctly will be the key to seeing the maximum benefits of these amazing God-given substances.
